Janice Elaine Wade (nee Wilson), was born on August 28, 1934 to the union of the late Catherine Granville (nee Radcliffe) (Nana) and James Wilson. She departed this life on January 23, 2022 at the age of 87. Janice was born and raised in Louisville, Kentucky until her early teens. Her family moved to Cincinnati where they resided in Madisonville. Janice is the oldest of Nana’s three daughters. She graduated from Withrow High School in 1952. Her best friend, the late Mary Etta Pennington, introduced her to her brother, the late Harold K. Wade, and the two became high school sweethearts. Janice and Harold married, and seven children were born to this union. During her earlier years, Janice worked as a dispatcher for her family’s cab stand business in Madisonville. She was an excellent cook who enjoyed cooking for large groups. Janice spent most of her years working in dietary services. Soon after retirement, she moved to Indianapolis to live with her daughter Christine and grandchildren. Janice resided in Indianapolis for eighteen years. For the last seven of those years, she lived between Indianapolis and Cincinnati. Janice was known as ‘Mom’ to her children. She was also known as ‘Maw Maw’, ‘Grandma’ and ‘Granny’ to her grandchildren, ‘Aunt Janice’ to her nieces and nephew, and Mrs. Wade to others. She raised her children in Kennedy Heights and was recognized as a mother to many of the children in the neighborhood. She had a sweet and loving spirit that welcomed everyone into her neighborhood home. Janice had a wonderful sense of humor. She was witty, frank, and said what was on her mind. She was known to talk your ears off and was nicknamed ‘Edge Wise’ because you could never get a word in when she started talking. Janice loved talking about the love of Jesus to her children, grandchildren, and to anyone who would listen. She was a prayer warrior who loved her family dearly. She prayed for each and every one of her children and grandchildren by name, as often as she prayed. Janice was a survivor. She overcame several serious illnesses throughout her life, but she was a fighter who never gave up. All through her years, she was known to sleep with both feet on the floor so she could always be ready. The day before she transitioned she tried her best to get out of bed so she could embrace and interact with her family for the last time. Janice departed this life on January 23, 2022. She leaves seven children to cherish her life, Cathy Wade-Davis, Cynthia Bolden (Leroy), Christine Wade, Carla Duncan (Dwight), Harold Philip Wade (Ramona), Carin Wade, Anthony Wade (Tonya); twenty-two grandchildren, thirty-three great-grandchildren (with one on the way); one great-great-great grandchild; two sisters, Gwendolyn Jones, and Barbara Pickett; first-cousin with whom she was raised, Delores Mason, and a host of cousins, nieces, nephews, and friends that she loved dearly. Janice was preceded in death by her half-sister Ardina Thompson. Memorial service for Ms. Janice Wade has been canceled due to inclement weather. Arrangements entrusted to the care of KINLEY Funeral Home & Arrangement Center.
