Mary Eliza Shelby

Mary Eliza Shelby, 67, departed this life on Monday, February 25, 2019 in Springfield Regional Medical Center surrounded by family and friends. She was born Mary Eliza Schaefer on August 20, 1951 to Cassie Hill and Howard Schaefer. A devoted wife, mother and grandmother, Mary loved to sing, cook, talk, and play bingo. She was a member of the Mt. Zion Baptist Church in Springfield, Ohio. Singing and directing the choir was a joy to her. Mary was married on December 26, 1969 to Terrace R. Shelby, Sr., whom she shared 49 years of marriage and 55 total years together. Mary leaves to cherish her memory, her husband, Terrace R. Shelby, Sr.; three children, Terrace R. Shelby, Jr. of Dayton, Ohio, Charo (Robert) Douglass of Hilliard, Ohio, and Cassieda Shelby of Springfield, Ohio; five grandchildren, whom she is known to as "Nana", Taviyon (Alexsis) Eubanks, Terra Eubanks, Tyana Eubanks, Tavonna Eubanks, and Talaya Eubanks, all of Springfield, Ohio. To learn of her memory she also leaves her unborn grandson, Conner Robert Douglass. She also leaves to cherish her memory, loving mother, Cassie Hill; siblings, Glenys (Cecil) Turner; Vernon (Marilyn) Schaefer; and Ursula Hinkle all of Louisville, Kentucky, and Selenah (Gregory) Brown of Surprise, Arizona; and a host of nieces, nephews, family and friends. Mary had several special friends whom she loved dearly. She is preceded in death by her father, Howard Schaefer. Visitation will be held at 11:00 a.m. until the time of service on Saturday, March 2, 2019 at Mt. Zion Baptist Church, 1171 S. Yellow Springs St., Springfield, Ohio 45506 with funeral service beginning at 12:00 p.m. Arrangements entrusted to the care of the Jerry W. Kinley Funeral Home.
