Arlene Slay

October 1, 1952 — May 29, 2024

Arlene (Quick) Slay, 71, formerly of Springfield, Ohio, passed away Wednesday, May 29, 2024 after a long and eventful life in Delanco, New Jersey. She was born October 1, 1952, the beloved daughter of Earnest and Thelma Quick.

She graduated from South High School (1972) and went on to further her education, graduating from Job Corps in 1973. Arlene married her ex-husband, Gilbert Slay, in 1974 and together they raised three children. Arlene worked tirelessly at University Hospital, East Orange General Hospital, until her well-deserved retirement in 1994. She lived a life to the fullest and had many accomplishments.

Arlene was known her love and had a heart of gold. She was always there for her loved ones in times of need, whether it was with a listening ear or a well-timed joke to lighten the mood. Arlene's health eventually failed her and she succumbed to cardiac arrest in the end. Her presence will be sorely missed by all who knew her.

Rest in peace, Arlene. May you continue to slay in the great beyond.

Arlene leaves to cherish her memory: her children, Neysa and Gilbert Slay; four grandchildren: Destiny Slay, and Daryl, Dimitrius, and Dynasty Hamilton; three great-grandchildren, Muhsin Ellis, Yahsin Ellis, and Royal Prince Kemokai; and a host of other family and friends.

She was preceded in death by her son, Warren Slay.

Visitation will be held from 11:00 a.m. until the time of service at 12:00 p.m. on Thursday, June 27, 2024 in the Kinley Funeral Home Chapel, 1307 East High Street, Springfield, Ohio 45505.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to the Arlene Quick (Slay) Memorial Fund, in honor of a woman who truly knew how to live life to the fullest.
