Artie C. Evans

Artie C. Evans, 98, of Springfield, Ohio made a peaceful transition to eternal life at her home on Wednesday, December 20, 2023. She was born in Widener, Arkansas on February 6, 1925 a daughter of Joseph and Robirta (Brinker) Wofford. Artie was the last survivor of 15 children.


She attended school in Widener, Arkansas and was a member of the White Rock Baptist Church in Arkansas. She was united in Holy Matrimony to Nathaniel H. Evans, Sr. and to their union were born six children: Nathaniel H. Evans, Jr., Karen Howard, Michelle Evans, Michael Evans, Brenda Owens, and Tim Evans.


Artie was a devoted wife and mother who worked part-time throughout the years doing light housekeeping. She was last employed at Credit Life Insurance Company. Artie joined Zion Hill Baptist Church in 1952 and remained a faithful member. For 25 years she was the president of the Senior Usher Board. Artie headed the Vacation Bible School at Zion Hill Baptist Church for numerous years and served on several other committees. She was a spirit-filled woman who had the heart of God, full of love and compassion for all. Artie was a mighty prayer warrior who ministered to the sick and shut-in and anyone who needed prayer. She also served in a jailhouse ministry for a number of years, ministering through prayer and Bible study in her hometown of Springfield, Ohio.


She was an avid sports fan and loved the Cincinnati Reds. Artie loved to cook and feed people. She also enjoyed sewing and fishing. Artie treasured her time with her family, friends and loved ones, forever spreading the message of love and peace to everyone saying, “Whatever you do, do it in love and peace.”


Artie leaves to cherish her memory: daughters, Karen Howard and Brenda Owens both of Springfield, Ohio; sons, Michael Evans of Springfield, Ohio, and Tim (Jeanna) Evans of Indianapolis, Indiana; bonus daughter, Debra (Barry) Davis of Springfield, Ohio; 14 grandchildren, 24 great-grandchildren, and 11 great-great-grandchildren; a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives, friends, and church family; and special friend, Minister Frankie Bush of Springfield, Ohio.


She was preceded in death by her parents and siblings; her husband, Nathaniel, H. Evans, Sr.; son, Nathaniel H. Evans, Jr.; and daughter, Michelle Evans.


Visitation will be held from 11:00 a.m. until the time of Funeral service at 12:00 p.m. on Friday, December 29, 2023 at Zion Hill Baptist Church, 1010 Dibert Avenue, Springfield, Ohio 45506. Interment will be held at 12:00 p.m. on Tuesday, January 2, 2024 in Ferncliff Cemetery.
