Carla Threats Kelley

Carla Anise Threats Kelley, 70, of Columbus, Ohio passed away Friday, December 3, 2021. She was born March 22, 1951, a daughter of Mabel Phelps Threats and Freddie Threats. She accepted the Lord, was a member of Greater First Baptist Church and later joined First Mt. Carmel Baptist Church. Carla was a proud graduate of Springfield South High School (where she facilitated the graduation of many others). Without retiring, she carried on as an independent contractor for Columbus Dispatch Consumer Services. Carla also dedicated twenty years as President of the Pastor’s Aide Committee while serving on the Parish & Church Board. "Queen", better known as Carla, created families everywhere she went—since her extended encounters left others calling her ‘Sister’, ‘Mom’, ‘NanaMa’, 'Auntie', and ‘Daughter’. She thrived on giving back. Each week she’d gather food, clothes, and toys to share with absolutely anyone that she imagined could use the support. It was Carla’s pleasure to invite and be invited to any celebration, giving her the chance to gussy-up in stilettos as Queen in her African Garb, which was Carla’s long term request—that her friends and family also attend her funeral celebration in African attire.😊 Thank you all for honoring that final wish. Carla leaves to cherish her memory: her daughter, LaTonya K. Threats (Martin); sons, Antoyne J. Threats and Darryll B. Davis; inherited children, Janelle Saunders, LaMar Smith, JaShar, James, and Mya Davis; grandchildren, Malachai Brown, Oshanique Threats, MiPreciouse Threats Fairley, Kyan Wharton, Kierra Saunders, MiZion Threats Fairley, Kaleea Saunders, Jackson, Julianna, Jaylynn, Jeneva, and James Davis; great-grandson, O’Syrus Threats Townsend; sisters, Karen (Kandi) and Donald Chilton, as well as, Danielle (Nell) Anthony Crockett; brother, Anthony "Tony" Threats; aunt, Marselene Phelps; special friend and home health aide, Michelle Matthews; and a host of cousins, nieces, nephews, relatives, and a plethora of friends. She was preceded in death by her parents; brothers; Robert (Bobby) and Bruce (Randy) Threats; sister, Carolyn Ann Threats-Upshaw; aunts, Mamie Sims, Willie Lee Phelps, Helen Lewis, Delores Walker, and Gladys Woody; and uncle, Robert (Uncle Juney) Phelps, Jr. Visitation will be held from 12:00 p.m. until the time of service at 1:00 p.m. on Friday, December 17, 2021 at El Bethel Temple, 2049 Clifton Ave, Springfield, Ohio 45505. Interment: Ferncliff Cemetery. A Celebration of Life will also be held from 1:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. on Saturday, December 18, 2021 at Urban Oasis Community Events Center, 2016 Minnesota Ave, Columbus, Ohio 43211.
