Cynthia Ann Armstrong

Cynthia Ann Rutherford-Armstrong, 61, passed away Friday, December 6, 2019. Cynthia was born in Cincinnati, Ohio on July 2, 1958 to Patsy Ruth Rutherford and James Landrum. She confessed Christ at an early age and was baptized. Cynthia found her church home at New Life Temple, joined on March 23, 1992 and remained an active member for twenty-seven years. She worked in many auxiliaries including but not limited to singing in the choir and teaching bible study at New Life Temple Bible College. One Minister commented Cynthia was always a willing vessel and would do anything she was asked to do. Her formal education was in the Cincinnati Public Schools. Cynthia graduated from Aiken Senior High School in 1976, received both her Bachelor of Science in Theology on July 1, 2007 and Master of Science in Christian Education on June 7, 2009 from New Life Temple Bible College graduating magna cum laude. Cynthia married Harry Armstrong in 1980 and to this union three children were born: Nikki, Sharry and Bridgette. She began working for Cincinnati Bell in 1976 and quickly rose through the ranks and was appointed to the position of Sr. Sales Representative. Cynthia retired from Cincinnati Bell in December 2004, but was such an exemplary employee she was permitted to return and worked an additional nine years from 2006 to 2015. She was a visionary and depicted a spirit of excellence in everything she did. Cynthia was a compass which illuminated her family and friends path. She was always a "first responder" when friends and family were in need. Cynthia had an indomitable spirit and was a fervent worshiper as she truly loved the Lord. She was a gardener who harvested love bountifully. Cynthia pruned and cultivated relationships with both friends and family until she perfected them. She was a kindred spirit whose southern hospitality enamored people. Cynthia had the uncanny ability to make everyone in the room feel they were the most important and she was an active listener. One of Cynthias greatest gifts was irrefutably the gift of song. She had a melodic, angelic voice which captivated audiences every time she sang. Some of her happiest moments were singing in the choir at New Life Temple. Cynthias persona was larger than life and she left an indelible impression on everyone she met. She was quick-witted and had an infectious laugh, which was almost contagious. Laughter resonated through any space she occupied. Cynthia was adventurous and courageous, she had a zest for life and lived it to the fullest. She had a forward fashion sense and was always impeccably dressed. Cynthia masterfully coordinated complex fashion combinations and wore them effortlessly. She made high-heeled stilettos her signature trademark and runway strutted in them everywhere she went. Everyone always commented about her "working those high-heeled shoes". Donna Karan "Cashmere" was her favorite fragrance and it embodied her essence, a very sweet bouquet. Cynthia always received accolades for her appearance and one of the most frequent and memorable comments about her was how sharp she always dressed. She leaves to cherish her memory: her beloved mother, Patsy Ruth Taylor; daughters, Sharry Kaylon (Michael) Stewart and Bridgette Antonette Armstrong; brothers, Dale Rutherford, Steve Rutherford and Donnie Rutherford; sister, Marsha Rutherford; paternal siblings all living in Oakland, California; sister-in-law, Deborah Rutherford; grandchildren, Torrey Cordell-Armstrong, Kayleb Armstrong, Makyiah Antonette Trimble-Armstrong, Shaun Pierre Armstrong-Hand, Devyn Abiel Armstrong-Hand, Dior Naomi Brown-Armstrong, Laila Nicole Armstrong, Symone Yvonne Stewart, Savannah Diann Stewart, Keith KJ Robinson Jr., Makayla Kaufman, Amyiah Kaufman and Michael Stewart Jr.; nieces, Lisa Hickman-Voner, Lashanna Rutherford, Robin Childress-Rodriguez, Amberly Rutherford, Sephra Rutherford, Taquela Best, Rayna Rutherford, Andrea Benson, Jasmine (Brandon) Hughes, Sofia Rutherford, Anna Marie Rutherford and Crystal Rutherford; nephews, Derrick Hollinsworth, Robert Dula, Aaron Daniels and William Rutherford; and a host of other relatives and friends. Cynthia was preceded in death by her father, James Landrum; daughter, Nikki Yvonne Armstrong; grandmother, Betty Brown; brother, Robert Earl Rutherford; great aunts, Martha Brown and Christina Brown; cousins, Robert (Bobby) and Freida Brown. Visitation will be held from 1:00 p.m. until the time of service at 3:00 p.m. on Saturday, December 14, 2019 at New Life Temple, 4836 Ward Street, Cincinnati, Ohio 45227. Interment will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, December 16, 2019 in the Vine Street Hill Cemetery, 3701 Vine Street, Cincinnati, Ohio 45220. Arrangements entrusted to the care of KINLEY Funeral Home.
