Doris Ellison, 88, of Springfield, Ohio passed away Saturday, May 29, 2021. She was born April 15, 1933 in Pine Mountain, Georgia to the union of William James Dunton and Francis Hixson Dunton. Doris was the tenth child of 13 children. She loved to sing, was a member of the missionary association, a mother of the church, and a member of the church choir. Doris was very fashionable, loved her hats, flowers, decorating, and gardening. She was an excellent cook and known for her sweet potato pies and dressing. Doris especially loved her family and was known to say, "Child, let me tell you..." Doris leaves to cherish her memory: children, Dorothy (Bruce) Adams, Franklin Wesley Ellison (Teresa), Christine Ellison, and Patricia Taylor—all of Springfield, Ohio; seven grandchildren, Shauntae Ellison, Dreaitress Piersoll, Danya Piersoll, Kameron Washington, JoJo (Tanisa) Norman, Richard (Lanaya) Turner, and Charity (Lee) Stevens; 24 great-grandchildren; and four great-great grandchildren; sister, Mary Francis Williams; sister-in-law, Bernice Applin; adopted son, Roland Gilbreath; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, extended family, and friends. Special thanks to the Rhodes family. She was preceded in death by her husband, John W. Ellison; two grandchildren, Danyale Piersoll and Dominique Washington; and 11 brothers and sisters. Visitation will be held at 10:00 a.m. until the time of service at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, June 5, 2021 at Zion Hill Baptist Church, 1010 Dibert Ave, Springfield, Ohio 45506. Burial: Ferncliff Cemetery. Arrangements entrusted to the care of KINLEY Funeral Home.
