Eddie Lee Beamon, 67, of Cincinnati, Ohio departed this life on Thursday, January 5, 2023. He was born in Cincinnati on July 16, 1955 to Eddie and Eunice Hill.
He was passionately known as “ED Lee” to his family and close friends. Eddie loved to dance; he was the life of the party, and at family gatherings. He loved being in the presence of others and had an infectious laugh and smile. Eddie also enjoyed cooking, and for many years he worked at the original Montgomery Inn, in Montgomery, Ohio.
Eddie graduated from Withrow High School c/o 74, where he played football and was named the MVP defensive end. As a quick and hard-hitting 240lb nose tackle and defensive end in football, he accounted for more than 320 tackles (150 of which were for losses) and 80 quarterback sacks in his three Varsity seasons. He also performed on the Tiger’s Track & Field team for three seasons, mainly in the 100 Yard Dash, the 440 Yard Relay Team and the Shot Put. Eddie was named First Team All-Public High School League three times, twice named First Team All-City by both the Cincinnati Enquirer and Post. As a senior, he was selected First Team All-State and was named a high school All-American by Parade Magazine. His football prowess was evident early in this high school career, when he was named as a Cincinnati Enquirer Player of the Week as a sophomore. Following a scrimmage with Withrow in 1973, Moeller Head Coach Gerry Faust was quoted as saying that Eddie Beamon was the best defensive player he had ever seen.
He was heavily recruited to play football by Ohio State, Michigan and Notre Dame and went on to start at The Ohio State University where he played for four years, until a severe ankle injury during his senior year ended his football career. He was very well liked around the campus, and played in the Orange Bowl and Rose Bowl, and was inducted into the Buddy LaRosa Hall of Fame in 1998.
Eddie leaves to cherish his memory: his son, Michael Moore of Toledo, Ohio; siblings: Roberta Williams, Eddie Hill, Anthony Beamon, Essie Beamon, Curtiss (Faith) Hill, Cynthia Jennings, Darlene Hill, Marvin (Deborah) Hill, Tyrone Hill, Aaron (Kenya) Hill, Sr., and Lamont (Shereia) Hill, Sr.; one aunt, Gracie (Billy) Knapper; and a host of nieces, nephews, family, and friends. He will be greatly missed.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Eddie and Eunice Hill; sister, Regina Thurman; and brother, Gregory Beamon.
Visitation will be held from 10:00 a.m. until the time of service at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, January 24, 2023 at Corinthian Baptist Church, 1920 Tennessee Ave, Cincinnati, Ohio 45237.
