Edward David Big Dave Mitchell

Edward "Big Dave" David Mitchell, 55, passed away peacefully surrounded by his loving family. He was born on December 17, 1962 to proud parents Edward and Joannie Mitchell and was the youngest of their two children. David (as known by his family, "Big Dave" as known by his friends) attended New York City Public Schools where he graduated from John Adams High School. He moved to Cincinnati, Ohio 30 years ago. He was an avid baseball fan. His favorite past time was watching and attending games of his beloved Cincinnati Reds. Throughout his life he held numerous jobs and was known by his family as the “Jack of All Trades”. There was never a job that was too big or too small that he would not tackle. He became clean and sober 12 ½ years ago and loved his NA family. He worked effortlessly to be an inspiration to others who were still struggling with the disease of addiction and took pride in his ability to do service. David was a Christian man that was baptized at an early age. Even while battling illness himself, he was a prideful caretaker for his parents. He ensured that they got to their doctor appointments and took them and others grocery shopping. He seemed to be fulfilled the most knowing that he was being helpful to others. He was also the person who kept that the family together by sending his infamous text messages and phone calls to everyone regularly. He leaves to mourn and cherish his memories, his wife, Linda Mitchell; children, Edward Corey and Kaylyn of Cincinnati, Ohio, and Latesha (Renaud) Leandre of New York; grandchildren, Justin, Jaela and Jonas; his beloved parents, Edward and Joannie Mitchell; sister, Sharon Mitchell; special niece, Shakirah (Tim) Bradford; nephew, Alex Lee; beloved aunt, Martha Reed; special cousins, Crystal and Tanya Reed, and Susan Carter; closest friend and mentor, Terry Anderson; and a host of other loving relatives and friends. David was preceded in death by a son, Robert Mitchell. Funeral services will be held at 12:00 p.m. on Wednesday, November 7, 2018 in James Temple Church of God in Christ, 1116 Lincoln Ave, Cincinnati, Ohio 45206 with visitation starting at 11:00 a.m. until the time of service. In Lieu of Flowers may be sent to the church. Final arrangements entrusted to the care of the Jerry W. Kinley Funeral Home.
