Edwin K. Brooks

Edwin Kelly Brooks, 44 departed this life on Monday, January 23, 2023, at Springfield Regional Hospital. He was born in Springfield on February 22, 1978, the son of Jack Darrell Brooks and Lavonda (Humphrey) Jordan.

He was a graduate of Springfield North High School. Edwin loved to cook and EAT what he cooked, working with electronics, playing practical jokes, and was an “AVID” Bengals Fan!

Edwin, fondly known as “Chicken Man”, leaves to cherish his memory: his beloved mother and stepfather, Lavonda (Andrew) Jordan; three sons, Edwin Brooks, Jr., and Darian Brooks both of Columbus, and Equan Brooks of Springfield; two daughters, Breanna Watts of Springfield, and Kiera Morgan of Chicago; one sister, Rolanda (Charles) Humphrey; five grandchildren: Jonathan Carson, Joniyah Carson, Jocelyn Carson, Keenen Brooks, and Major Brooks; the love of his life, Yolonda Crowe; aunts: Toya Clark, Jacquelyn Carr, Sonja (Robert) Howard, Anita (Marlan) Gilmore, Robin Avery, Yvette Mayo, and Karen (Jessie) Bray; uncles: Eric (Crystal) Humphrey, Theron Humphrey, Derrick Humphrey, Reggie Robinson, and James Walls; nieces, Darrilyn Humphrey, Kiera Williams, and Keosha Goodwin; nephew, Jason Gregory, Jr.; best friend “like a brother”, Shane Ramey; special cousins: LaTasha Clark, Marc Clark, James Wyatt, Jerome Wyatt, Marlin (Claudette) Massey, Craig Massey, Allen Moore, Steven Garrison, Shawntae Lynn, Sena Crowe, and Robert Smith; special friends, Brad and Donna Gallamore, and Thomas Butler; and a host of cousins, nieces, nephews, extended family, and friends.

He was preceded in death by his father, Jack Darrell Brooks; sister, Shaun Denise Dodson; maternal grandparents, Janet Mae Banta and Allen Humphrey; paternal grandparents, Wilma Jean Bondurant and Edwin Brooks; uncles, Herschel Humphrey and Allen Humphrey; and brother-in-law, Robert Dodson.

Edwin met NO strangers, was loved by many and will be greatly missed.

Visitation will be held from 10:00 a.m. to the time of service at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, February 3, 2023 at St. John Missionary Baptist Church, 34 West Pleasant Street, Springfield, Ohio 45506. Please enter the church on the Mulberry Street side. Interment: Ferncliff Cemetery.
