Hazel L. Foster

August 7, 1946 — November 18, 2021

Mother Hazel L. Foster, 75, of Dayton, Ohio was called home by her Heavenly Father on Thursday, November 18, 2021 at approximately 5:45 p.m. She was surrounded by her loving family members. Mother Hazel Foster was born Hazel Lee Ficklin on August 7, 1946 in Morton, Mississippi. She was the youngest of five children born to the late James and Cora L. Ficklin. She graduated from Bettye Mae Jack High School in 1965 in the city of Morton. Mother Hazel received Jesus Christ as her personal Lord and Savior at the age of 13 at Holy Hill COGIC, under the pasturage of Elder D.R. Curry. She served the church faithfully and later became the secretary of the Sunday School. Mother Hazel was united in Holy Matrimony to Elder Charles Foster on March 12, 1967. She and Charles moved to Dayton, Ohio on August 19, 1968. They joined The Prayer Garden COGIC and served there faithfully for sixteen consecutive years. In 1985 the Lord directed Elder and Mother Foster to Lima, Ohio to serve under Pastor James Shelby at St. Luke COGIC. After serving there for five years, the Lord directed Elder and Mother Foster back to Dayton, Ohio in 1990 to establish Grace COGIC. Later the church name was changed to Grace Outreach Fellowship, a non-denominational church. While serving alongside her husband, Mother Foster was a fervent prayer warrior. She led the Thursday noon-day prayer for many years. She also led the women as a good example of a virtuous, Proverbs 31 woman. She was active in the entire ministry. Mother Foster was kind, soft-spoken and very friendly. She took very good care of her children, always putting them first. Mother Foster was very diligent in every role she walked in. Shortly after moving to Dayton, Ohio with Elder Foster, she was employed at NCR until the birth of their first daughter. Mother Foster was a homemaker, seamstress, upholsterer, and a top Avon sales representative for 10 years. She served alongside her husband as the co-owner of their rental properties. Most note-worthy, she always conducted herself under her husband’s lead. She always honored her husband as head in their relationship. She stood in for him when he could not be present for certain occasions. Usually where you saw one, you saw both. Elder Foster enjoyed coming home to Mother Foster. He states that if it were possible, he would marry her again in heaven. She leaves to cherish her memory: her devoted husband of 54 years, Elder Charles Foster; their four daughters, Michelle, Charlene, Coretta, and Priscilla Foster; sister, Ms. Ree Ethel Boyd and her children: Steve, Rosie, Rochie, and Angela; nephew, Dalton Laster; niece, Qwendolyn Ficklin; sister-in-law, Ms. Susan Lott and her children: Lisa, Troy, Stanley, and Kendall Lott; eight grandchildren: Andres Foster, Chelsy Barker; Spencer, Winston, and Ethan Hamilton; Jocelyn, Christina, and Diamond Jones. She was preceded in death by her parents, James and Cora Ficklin; sister, Bernell Laster; two brothers, James Henry and Sandy Lee Ficklin; her father and mother-in-law, Elder and Mother Shelby; and nephew, Corey Lott. Visitation will be held from 10:00 a.m. until the time of service at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, November 27, 2021 at Maranatha Worship Centre, 4501 Wolf Road, Dayton, Ohio 45416. Interment will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Monday, November 29, 2021 in Dayton National Cemetery, 4400 West Third Street, Dayton, Ohio 45428.
