John Frazier Sanford, Jr., 59, of Springfield, Ohio went home with the Lord on Thursday, May 11, 2023 in the care of Southbrook Care Center. He was born July 13, 1963 the eldest son of John Frazier Sanford, Sr. and Virginia Lee (Beard) Sanford.
Johnny attended Springfield High School and was an avid athlete—excelling in every sport. He was a star player on the Little Tigers football team coached by his late uncle Walt Sanford, Sr. Johnny was known for his speed on the field, scoring many touchdowns. Not only did Johnny excel in football, but also every sport from track, swimming and basketball. Johnny loved family and loved being with family. He loved being around people. Johnny had a big heart and was a giving person. He loved to attend church and loved to accompany Pastor Craig Leslie with his travel ministry. Don’t get me wrong, Johnny loved a cold beer too! I asked him his last wishes. I asked him did he want a cold beer and he said no he just wanted his bible.
Johnny leaves to cherish his memory: his sisters, Keyla and Tina Benton of Springfield, Ohio; nephews, Jalil and Jamal Thomas, and Natanel Addison, Jr.; nieces, Nhyelle Lee and Niomee Addison; great-nephew, Drake Thomas; great-nieces, Ariya Lee and Amara Thomas all of Springfield, Ohio; special friends, Pastor Craig Leslie, Carmen Naylor, and Julia Sissy Bass who provided unconditional friendship; and a host of family and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Alonda Lee Sanford; brother, Aaron Sanford; nephew, Kenyon Roe; paternal grandparents, Joseph and Geneva Sanford; and maternal grandparents, Owen and Rosie Lee (Beard) Scott.
Visitation will be held from 12:00 p.m. until the time of Funeral service at 1:00 p.m. on Friday, May 26, 2023 in the Kinley Funeral Home Chapel, 1307 East High Street, Springfield, Ohio 45505. Interment: Ferncliff Cemetery.
