Joseph A. Hampton

February 13, 1972 — October 2, 2021

Joseph Alfred Hampton, 49, of Cincinnati, Ohio, passed away unexpectedly on Saturday, October 2, 2021. He was born February 13, 1972, in Springfield, Ohio, the son of Louis N. Hampton Sr. and Luvenia (Simmons) Hampton. Joe was a graduate of Springfield South High school and Glenville State College, located in Glenville, WV. He obtained his bachelor’s degree in Hospitality Management. He began his career after college at Fidelity Investments in Boston, Massachusetts. Later he transferred with Fidelity to Cincinnati, Ohio where he resided. During his high-school years, Joe attended and later worked many summers at Mont Lawn Camp, located in Bushkill, PA, and later at Camp Olmstead, located in Cornwall on the Hudson, NY. During those years, Joe developed many lifelong friendships that remained strong through the years. Joe never let go of his roots in his beloved Fair Vista neighborhood where he grew up. He affectionately tagged himself as the mayor of “Fair Vista”. He cherished the family atmosphere of the neighborhood, and the relationships that were grown during that period of his life. As a result, many of those relationships remain strong. Later in life, Joe learned and began to understand his strengths. He saw himself as a networker. He spent hours on the phone speaking and getting to know those he interacted with. He worked very hard to connect with people’s hearts, and minds and where they were in their lives. Joe never met anyone that he would not eventually leverage their network connection in some positive way. He welcomed that fact and therefore he was always willing to help, or just be there just to listen if needed. Joe was always ready to lend a helping hand if he could. If he could not, he most likely knew someone within his network that he could connect that person with. Joe was dedicated to his family and his community. He was a mentor, a lover of all sports, and a developer of athletes, both young men and women. He believed in developing the whole person, not just their athletic ability. To develop that passion, Joe was a trainer/coach with Kimbrough Ballers in Cincinnati, Ohio, an assistant coach for the Lady Wildcats for Springfield High School, a co-founder of Southwest Ohio Preparatory Academy located in Springfield Ohio. Joe took these responsibilities very seriously. He spent a great amount of time working with, and for many of the young athletes who participated with these organizations. His goal was to help the aspiring athlete to sharpen their natural skills to progress to the next level that their interests and athletic abilities could take them. He saw potential in every student athlete. He wanted every student he worked with to earn a college scholarship and a chance to attend college while playing a sport that they loved. He was committed to that goal and spent many hours on the phone with college coaches, and athletic directors, networking for the benefit of the students and programs he supported. He was so proud of that fact. Joe enjoyed people knowing that he was truly a diehard Pittsburg Steelers Fan and a member of the great Steeler Nation. He attended many of their games and enjoyed the tailgating camaraderie that came with being a member of the Steeler Nation at the beginning of each game. He would say that there were no strangers at the game if fans knew you were there to support the Steelers. For those that knew Joe or knew of him, they quickly discovered that he was an all-around great and loving people-person. He loved to barbecue and was always buying new grills and trying out new recipes and ways of “cueing” as he would say. He never missed a moment or holiday to try to organize a family barbecue. He cherished family ties, and used family get-togethers, and barbecuing as a means to keep those ties strong. Joe leaves to cherish his legacy, his father, Louis N. Hampton Sr.; his siblings; sisters, Sandra (Greg) Hamilton of Springfield, OH, Louise (Eddie Arias) Hampton of Sacramento, brother, Louis (Lana) Hampton Jr. of Suwanee, GA, sister, LaVerne (Jimmy) Wallace of Springfield, OH; nieces and nephews; great-nieces and nephews; Gregory Hamilton II, Erika Wallace, James Christopher Wallace, Jeramey Hampton, Cameron Hampton, Michael Wallace and Kenndra Hampton; Great nephew and nieces, Joel Wallace, Alonna Wallace and Ava Wallace. Hampton; and a host of special aunts and uncles.
