Jovon A. Sanford

December 25, 1994 — January 8, 2023

Jovon A. Sanford, 28, of Springfield, Ohio passed away Sunday, January 8, 2023. He made his grand entrance on Christmas Day of 1994, a beautiful Christmas gift to his parents, Tracey and Joseph Sanford.

Jovon continued his legacy and made his mark on every person that he encountered from the classmates at Springfield City Schools to the college friends at Wilberforce University. Anyone that has a memory with him has a laugh. If you saw Jovon coming, you knew a good time was coming along. He was a very bright young man, played the drums, had good grades, could play basket ball, and he spoke his mind. Jovon could decorate a room and clean it up good. That was "our wooo" as Walt called him. Besides being the life of the party, Jovon was a phenomenal father, brother, son, and friend. His infectious smile and jubilant spirit will be missed by us all. Some of Jovon’s favorite saying’s to remember him by: “I’m here for a good time, not a long time.” and “Rain, Sleet, or Snow--I’m going to that sto.”

Jovon leaves to cherish his memory: his only son, Jakari Sanford; parents, Tracey and Joseph Sanford; siblings, Taheerah Mahmood and Che Coleman; great-grandmother, Naomi Carter; maternal grandparents, Bertha (Sue) and Horace Mahmood; aunts, Kelly Harris, Belinda (Marcus) Napper, and Zonyetta Mahmood; uncles, Otis Belle, Orlando Sanford, Sr., and Demetrius Thomas; nephews, William (Willie) Robinson and Ali Coleman; niece, A’ Zyrah Coleman; special cousins: Walter Sanford, David Sanford, Donte Belle, Quantrell (Traneisha) Sanford, Victoria Darling, Keisha Burns, Rahmaan (Shanay) Timmes, Kimberly Burns, Shakora Warfield, Monte Belle, Warren Napper, Chynna Mahmood, Brianna Napper, Kiera Williams, Orlando Sanford, Eric McNary, Devaughn Thomas, Carter Mahmood, and Myles Roberts; special friends: Vincent, TaMeka, Roman, Nick, DeTrez, Mykala, Chandler, Dalisa, Dashawn (Hazze), Carlos, Anthony, DJ, Brett, Philly, Kamal, Kristen, Hakeem, Adric, Robert, Brooke, Tarryn, Rasheed, Kamarta, and Will; mother of his child, Kaleelah Scarbrough; and a host of other family and friends.

Jovon’s unforeseen departure follows behind his paternal grandparents, Joseph Sanford, Sr. and Saundra Belle; uncle, Baharu Mahmood; and nephew. Chauncey Mahmood-Coleman.
