Lawrence Gene “Soldier” Strodes, 64, of Springfield, Ohio, went home to be with the Lord on Thursday, May 26, 2022, in his residence surrounded by his loving family. He was born February 20, 1958, in Springfield, a son of Fayetta Strodes and Realouis Harrison, Jr. He was a lifelong resident of Springfield, Ohio. Lawrence graduated from Springfield South High School (Class of 1976), and then went on to serve in the United States Army. Lawrence married the love of his life, Terri (Evans), on August 6, 1979. Together they raised four children. He believed in spending time with family and enjoyed sharing life lessons. Lawrence was an avid Cleveland Browns fan and enjoyed listening to all types of music, watching old western movies, and watching wrestling, especially with his two grandsons Marwan and Kamden. Lawrence leaves to cherish his memory: his loving and devoted wife of 43 Years, Terri (Evans) Strodes; children, Armon (Amy), Hope (Chris), Kendra (Richard) Busbee, and nephew, Suluki (Christina) Evans; nine grandchildren, JacQuan (Meranda) Mitchell, Ayanna (Lee), Iesha Givens, Terae Strickland, Na’Veya Strickland, Zyiiesha, Alyssa Evans, Marwan Snodgrass II, and Kamden Brown; four great-grandchildren: Alona Givens, JacQuan Mitchell, Jr., Malanii Strickland, and Aurora Mitchell; brothers, Tommy Strodes, Howard (Cindy) Strodes and Marvin Strodes; his bonus brother, Stevie Henderson; special friends, Donald “Itchy” Elliott and the Duncan Bradley, Jr. family; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. Lawrence was preceded in death by his parents; maternal grandparents, Sanford and Anna Louise (Thompson) Strodes; paternal grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Realouis Harrison, Sr.; 4 sisters, Vera, Frances, Grace and Diana; 3 brothers, Roger, James and Mitchell; 2 great nephews, Maurice Strodes and Gary Strodes, Jr. and 2 great nieces, Janae Strodes and La’Nesha Strodes; In-laws, Darrell, Marquis, Patty Evans and one great granddaughter, Maia Givens-Hassan. Visitation will be held at 11:00 a.m. with funeral service to follow at 12:00 p.m. on Monday, June 6, 2022 at El Bethel Temple, 2049 Clifton Avenue, Springfield, Ohio 45505. Interment: Ferncliff Cemetery. Arrangements entrusted to the caring hands of KINLEY Funeral Home.
