Lorraine Holmes

March 17, 1952 — October 1, 2022

Lorraine Holmes, 70, of Cincinnati, Ohio passed away Saturday, October 1, 2022. She was born March 17, 1952, a daughter of Roosevelt White and Mary Louise Braswell of Chicago, Illinois.

After the passing of her Mother at a very young age, Lorraine was reared by her Uncle the late Isaiah and Ethel Braswell in Cincinnati, Ohio. Lorraine found Christ at an early age. She joined and was baptized at St. Luke A.M.E. in Cincinnati, Ohio in the community of Madisonville. Lorraine was a member of the Youth/Junior choir and served on several Church committees. Her passion was to help others with a smile and a warm hug. Her church mission was to help nursing home patients.

Lorraine started a sock drive. She collected new socks, hats and gloves and gave them to patients in the nursing homes. Lorraine also enjoyed walking and she would often stop in the thrift store on Madison Road like her Aunt often did. She found quite a few collectibles that she said would one day make her rich! Lorraine loved sitting on her porch on warm sunny days. She enjoyed speaking to neighbors and having friendly conversations.

Her special passion was sewing. Lorraine learned her skills from school, and she loved it. She often made her own skirts and dresses. Lorraine even made her outfits for special occasions. She was our Sewing Queen.

Lorraine attended Madisonville Elementary, Lyon Jr. High School, and was a proud graduate of Withrow High School. The great and largest graduating class of 1971.

She began working at a young age. Her Aunt instilled in her the importance of making your own money by working for it. Lorraine worked summer jobs through the city youth program. After graduation, she worked at Woodside Manor in Kenwood for a number of years. There, Lorraine met her lifelong best friend, Claudia Taylor. They remained best friends through their adult lives. Lorraine worked for several years at the Madisonville Day Care Center with the babies and preschoolers, which she truly enjoyed.

Lorraine was employed with the Cincinnati Public Schools where she worked in the cafeteria for over twenty years. Lorraine always said it was a busy job, but it was rewarding to get to know some of the students and see them grow into adults and graduate. She hoped she fed them well!

Lorraine leaves to cherish her memory: her two sons, Charles Holmes and Brian Holmes, Sr.; grandchildren, Brittany Holmes, Brian Holmes, Jr., Anthony and Montez Holmes and Janiyah Wynn; Cheyanne and Braylon Holmes; niece, Brandy Renee Holmes; nephew, Gregory Isiah Holmes (Janae); great-nieces, Teanasia Stomay, Bryce Ahnjanae, and Kennedy Anna Marie; great-nephews, Ricky Isaiah, Todd Malone, Charles Benjamin, Brandon Cole, and Jayden Armoni; siblings; Cynthia Braswell, Carol Grimes, Pamela Braswell, Isiah (Greg) Braswell, and Pastor Anita Braswell; lifelong best friend, Claudia Taylor; and a host of other relatives and friends all of whom will miss her dearly.

She was preceded in death by her parents and step-parents; sister: Tacoma Holmes, Catherine Braswell, Marilyn Kendricks, Deborah Gassett, Winnie Shaheed, and Sandra Braswell; and great-nieces, Tondalaeia Unique and Chelsey So'le.

Visitation will be held from 10:00 a.m. until the time of service at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, October 15, 2022 at James Temple Church of God in Christ (Annex Chapel), 1119 Lincoln Ave, Cincinnati, Ohio 45206. Repass to follow services downstairs in the Fellowship Hall.
