Marsha Yvonne Rutherford, 60, of Cincinnati, Ohio departed this life on Thursday, October 14, 2021. She was born to Patsy Ruth Rutherford on August 09, 1961 in Cincinnati. She confessed Christ at an early age and was baptized. Marsha was the youngest of six children. As a child, she was intelligent and introverted, but as her persona evolved through adolescence and adulthood, she was no longer the most docile and had a way of making her presence known. Marsha had a wry sense of humor. When something amused her, it penetrated her to the core and resulted in her erupting into volcanic laughter. She was family-oriented, loved her children and grandchildren, and fondly doted on them, tending to their every need. Marsha was a complex being as she could be as sweet as a fragrant bouquet of flowers or a formidable foe specializing in being cantankerous and obstinate. No matter what someone’s relationship with her was, she left an indelible impression. Marsha had mechanical aptitude and was adept at making minor repairs. Her nieces fondly remember her fashion sense and trading ensembles and shoes with her at random. She was a confidant to them and could be trusted not to divulge matters which were shared with her. They commended her for allowing them to “come as they were”, be themselves, and never passing judgment on them. Like her sister before her, she had the gift of song and loved artists Sade and Vesta Williams oftentimes mimicking them when singing. Marsha's hobbies included reading, watching thriller movies, playing saduko, dominoes, spending time with family, and bingo, which is reminiscent of her mother. Marsha's formal education was at Cincinnati Public Schools. She attended Aiken High School and stood out scholastically and athletically—resulting in her winning a marathon and being bestowed with the “Presidential Achievement Award”. Marsha continued her education, initially pursuing a Licensed Practical Nursing Degree in 1991 and culminating in her receiving a Registered Nursing Degree from Cincinnati State Technical College in 2006. Marsha was a consummate professional, and excellent clinician, nursing provided great intrinsic satisfaction to her and resulted in a nursing career which spanned decades holding Registered Nursing positions at University of Cincinnati Medical Center in Cardiology, and Supervisory positions at University of Cincinnati Medical Center, Burlington House and St. Margaret Hall. She had two biological children—daughters, Sephra Rutherford and Jasmine Rutherford aka “Bunn”. However, when asked how many children she had, Marsha always responded, "Four: two daughters and two sons." She loved her sons-in-law; namely, William Blakey and Brandon Hughes, dearly as they were part of her heart songs. Marsha leaves to cherish her memory: her daughters, Sephra (William) Blakey, and Jasmine (Brandon) Hughes; brothers, Dale Rutherford, Steven Rutherford, and Donald Rutherford; grandchildren, Andre Rutherford, Seth Rutherford, Siyah Rutherford, and Zoah Blakey; nieces, Sharry (Michael) Kaylon Stewart, Bridgette Armstrong, Lisa Hickman-Voner, Robin Childress-Rodriguez, Amberly Rutherford, Anna Marie Rutherford, Tequela Best, Rayna Rutherford, Andrea Benson, and Sofia Rutherford; nephews, Derrick Rutherford, and Robert Dula; and a host of other relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her mother, Patsy Ruth Taylor; grandfather, Brack Ingram; grandmother, Betty Brown; brother, Robert Earl Rutherford; sister, Cynthia Armstrong; niece, Nikki Yvonne Armstrong; great-aunts, Martha Brown, and Christina Brown; and cousin, Robert (Bobby) Brown. Visitation will be held at 9:00 a.m. until the time of service at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, October 30, 2021 at James Temple Church of God in Christ (Annex Chapel), 1119 Lincoln Ave, Cincinnati, Ohio 45209.
