Mary Frances Johnson

Mary Frances "Doodie" Johnson, 85, of Springfield, Ohio departed this life Monday, September 28, 2020. She was born on August 2, 1935 in Talladega, Alabama the daughter of Joe Henry and Elizabeth (Milton) Smoot. She enjoyed family gatherings—family unity was most important to her. Mary's love for cooking and feeding others was a deep passion of hers. She was loved as a daycare provider, taking care of children of all ages. Mary never met a stranger and her door was always opened to anyone who needed a place to stay. She was a true believer of Matthew 25:35. Mary leaves to cherish her memory: her children, Myra Threats, Charles (Sonequa) Smoot, Sr., Louise Browning, Kenny Smoot, Sr., James (Laverne) Smoot, Billy Wayne Simmons, and Lawrence (Clarence) Simmons; grandchildren, Petrina Smoot, Sineka Smoot, Miyeca Smoot, LaRonda (Ernest) Tawiah, Randy (Heather) Smoot, Charles Smoot, Jr., Terrance (Bianka) Smoot, Johntae (Janae) Smoot, Neyha Smoot, Le’Kian (Phyllis) Powell, Kenny Smoot, Jr., Jayona Strodes, Demetrius Smoot, Tony Ballard-Smoot, Aliesha Smoot, Bradley Brown, Tia Freeman, Jalyn Freeman, and Tiffani Fuller; 27 great-grandchildren; 15 great-great-grandchildren; sister, Rosetta Chapman; special friends, Marva Green and Martha Cochran; and a host of nieces, nephews, other family and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, James A. Johnson; sisters, Willie B. White and Frances Jackson; brothers, Henry Smoot and Frank Jackson; and granddaughter, Tammy Bates. Visitation will be held from 10:00 a.m. until the time of service at 12:00 p.m. on Monday, October 5, 2020 at El Bethel Temple, 2049 Clifton Ave, Springfield, Ohio 45505.
