Patricia E. Gentry

June 24, 1958 — November 14, 2024

Patricia Elaine Mays-Gentry, aka (Pat or Trish), 66, of Springfield, Ohio passed away Thursday, November 14, 2024. She was born in Springfield on June 24, 1958, to the late Fred L., Sr. and Bliss E. (Allen) Mays. Patricia accepted Christ at an early age.

She graduated from Springfield South High School, and enjoyed friendships made along the way. Patricia uprooted her life in Jacksonville, Florida, 11 years ago, when her brother-in-law passed away unexpectedly to be with her sister. That’s when she saw Tobe at church, and they never separated again.

Pat was employed at Stanley Electric, London, OH, commuting back and forth every day, until her health prevented her from returning to work. She loved her family and friends, but there was another person, who had her heart beside her husband Tobe. Her great-niece Miri. Miri was her heavenly medicine that didn’t have to be injected or swallowed like a pill. Whenever Miri showed up, new life seemed to blossom in Pat, and she was good to go. On Sunday, before her passing, she and Miri face timed each other unknowingly for the last time. Miri sensed something was wrong, because after they ended the call, Miri burst into tears, like she knew it would be her last time to see her.

She was active in her church, Covenant’s Dinner Box Ministry, Chairperson of Covenant’s Staff Parrish Committee, Covenant’s Usher Board, and member of the Kawaha House Coffee truck along with being a member of Sister’s United for Prevention just to name a few. Pat was always upbeat with a smile, laugh or quick comebacks. She loved reading her Bible and traveling to the Holy Land with her sister and traveling with her husband. But, if you ever saw her with a stern look, look out because you were going to get the wrath of Pat. Pat was a small person in size, but had a heart as BIG as gold, and would do anything for anybody.

Pat loved making lots of memories along the way. She leaves to cherish those precious memories: her husband, Tobe Gentry II; sisters, Emma Holder, Frederica Mays, and Donna Brino-Blackwell; brother, Fred L. Mays, Jr.; sisters-in-law, Patty (John) Young, and Deborah Woods; son, Tobe Gentry III; grandchildren, Tobe IV, and Taden Gentry; and a host of nieces, nephews, aunts, and cousins. Special friends: Kristen Warren Curran, Samantha Wilkins, Megumi Kennedy, Wendy Cromer, Amy Hammond, and her boss Laura Toops, and many others.

She was preceded in death by her parents; brother, John Mays; and sister-in-law, Sherry Gaines.

Visitation will be held from 12:00 p.m. until the time of Funeral service at 1:00 p.m. on Monday, November 25, 2024 at Covenant United Methodist Church, 529 West State St, Springfield, Ohio 45506. Interment: Ferncliff Cemetery.
