Raymond E. Jones, Sr.

Raymond Emerson Jones, Sr., 73, of Springfield, Ohio departed this life on Thursday, July 4, 2024 at Franklin Square Hospital Center (Baltimore, MD). Raymond was born on July 1, 1951 in Springfield, Ohio the son of Floyd Jones, Jr. and Eva Louise (Keller) Jones.

Raymond was educated in Springfield City School System. Upon graduation from Springfield South High School, Raymond worked at Bonded Car Wash for several years until he was hired fulltime at National-Oilwell Varco (formerly Robbins & Myers). He worked for NOV as a machinist until he retired after 30 years. After retirement, Raymond worked at Yamada in South Charleston, OH, and Middle River Aircraft Systems in Middle River, MD until he decided to stop being a master machinist and officially retire.

Raymond was a lifelong member of New North Street AME Church where he served as a Trustee, President of the Senior Choir and Male Chorus, Member of the Senior Choir, Member of the Male Chorus, and Member of the InJoy Singers. He also shared his time and talents wherever he was needed in the church.

Raymond had a love for children and his home was always filled with fun and the laughter of children. His love for children, including his own, had him fulfill the request to dress up as Santa Claus for Christmas at Highlands Elementary School during his children’s elementary school years. Raymond was also a girl scout dad, cub scout/boy scout dad that later led him to become a Cub Scout leader, and foster parent. He enjoyed bowling, playing cards, cooking out on the grill, gardening, spending time with family and friends, and football. His favorite teams were the Cleveland Browns and Ohio State.

Raymond Jones was a devoted father, grandfather, great-grandfather, son, nephew, uncle, godfather, and friend. He leaves to cherish his memory and legacy: daughters, Hope (Harold) Moore of Highland, CA, and Dana (Darnell) Rascoe of Dundalk, MD; son, Raymond (Toya) Jones, Jr. of Springfield, OH; granddaughters, Whitney (Alejandro) Del Rio of San Bernadino, CA, Brandi Burks of Highland, CA, and Kayla McLean-Jones of Dundalk, MD; great-granddaughters, Shylah Del Rio, Taliyah Del Rio, Xamara Del Rio, and Annalee Del Rio all of San Bernadino, CA; niece, Angela (Marlon) Harris of Waldorf, MD; nephew, Shon (Rani) Haigler of Fort Wayne, IN; a host of cousins, nephews, godchildren, and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents and one sister, Portia May (Jones) Clare.

Visitation will be held from 9:00 a.m. until the time of Funeral service at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, July 20, 2024 at New North Street AME Church, 901 South Center Street, Springfield, Ohio 45506. Interment: Rose Hill Burial Park.
