Richard "Dickel" Moss, Jr., 71, of Springfield, Ohio passed away Wednesday, February 9, 2022 at Springfield Regional Medical Center. He was born December 26, 1950 in Urbana, Ohio to the late Richard Moss and Lillian (Robert) Schafer. Dickel graduated from Springfield South High School in 1970. While at Springfield South High School, Dickel excelled in multiple sports including football, basketball and baseball. Dickel was a force to reckon with on the football field accomplishing numerous records and awards. It was his love for baseball that Dickel continued to play well into his adult years. While playing he won several World Series Championships in the amateur league. Dickel was inducted into several hall of fames including Springfield South High School in 2007, DABC Hall of Fame in 2011 and the Springfield Clark County Hall of Fame in 2016 all for baseball. Once Dickel’s playing days were over with, he coached two of his sons during their little league years. Dickel was employed by International Harvester (Navistar) for 33 years. He was also employed with IHN for several years. In 1977, Dickel accepted Christ at the Church of Jesus. He served in many capacities including, Usher Board, Men’s Ministry, Culinary Guild, Building Fund, and Pastor’s Aide. Dickel bowled for many years in various leagues, developing a lot of friendships along the way. To say that Dickel loved the Dallas Cowboys, would be an understatement. Family and friends would often joke about how he would wear his Cowboys leather or suede jacket all year long, even in the hot summer months. After retirement, you could often see Dickel on the sidelines cheering on his grandchildren as they continued with the Moss Sports Legacy. Dickel leaves to cherish his memory: his loving wife of 22 years, Charlotte A. Moss; sons, Richard Moss III, Marlowe (Monique) Fullen, and Ryan (Priscilla) Moss; daughter, Marquita “Maria” Moss; sisters: Tracy Jones, Michael Higgins, Roxanne Taylor, and Marion (Toshiaki) Sakima; brother-in-law, Charles (Stephanie) Fullen; sister-in-law, Sharon Moss; grandsons: Richard Marquise Moss, Corey (Dinah) Timmons, Rachaad Malik Moss, Jayden Borden, Christian McMillan, Zayvion Banks, and Resse Hanohano Moss; granddaughters: Asmaa Fullen, Nia Fullen, Trinity Moss, and Lauren Timmons; great-grandchildren, Ja’Tyla Fullen, D’Andta Shelton, Jr., and Carter Ray Lawrence; several nieces and nephews; special friends, Adrian Berrien and Marvin Sutton; and a host of other relatives and friends. Richard was preceded in death by his parents, Richard Moss and Lillian (Robert) Schafer; brother, Vaughn Moss; and grandson, Tyler Fullen. Visitation will be held from 11:00 a.m. until the time of service at 12:00 p.m. on Saturday, February 19, 2022 at Church of Jesus Family Worship Center, 623 South Center Street, Springfield, OH 45506.
