Robert G. Long

Robert Gregory Long, 68, of Springfield, Ohio transitioned from this life on February 3, 2022 at Springfield Regional Hospital. Robert, best known as “Chops”, was born on August 28, 1953, the youngest of four children born to Ethelbert and Juanita Foster-Long. He was educated in the Springfield City School System. Robert worked in janitorial services with Aetna for many years until his life-altering stroke. He enjoyed many activities including: swimming, skating, dancing, playing tennis, and shooting pool—which was his favorite. Robert was a fun-loving and kind-hearted man. Robert leaves to cherish his memory: devoted companion and caregiver, Miriam “Chickey” Jones; beloved daughter, Tasha Hawkins of Dayton, Ohio; five beloved sons: Ryan Long, Daniel Edwards, and Tywan West all of Springfield, Ohio; Malik (Brittany) Harris of Columbus, Ohio; and Michael Ross, Sr. of Youngstown, Ohio; stepchildren, Thomas Jones, and Kim Jones; 11 grandchildren; five step-grandchildren, whom he dearly loved; loving sister, Jocinta Long-Holloway of Dayton, Ohio; three nieces, Patrice (Rafael) Abdul-Rahman of Seattle, Washington; Tracy Long, and Kia Holloway both of Dayton, Ohio; three nephews, Edward (Helen) Hawthorne of Huber Heights, Ohio; Kevin Long and Charles Strickland of Dayton, Ohio; and a host of great-grandchildren, great-nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, Ethelbert and Juanita Foster-Long; son, Tony Powell; sister, Pearlie Long-Compton; brother, Ethelbert “Sonny” Long; grandson, Michael Ross, Jr.; niece, Frances Snodgrass-Garrett; great niece, Pam Snodgrass -Ransome; and nephews, James “Rail” Compton and Keith Compton. Visitation will be held from 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. on Saturday, February 12, 2022 in the Kinley Funeral Home Chapel, 1307 East High St, Springfield, Ohio 45505.
