Sherry Calhoun (Strauss), 64, passed away on Thursday, December 30, 2021. She was born on October 28, 1957 to Conway Sylvester Strauss and LaVerne Strauss in Cincinnati Ohio. She attended Princeton High School. As a teenager, she learned the art of Swedish massage from her great aunts and her mother. She worked passionately as a massage therapist in spas and traveled to customers’ homes. She met Darryl Keith Calhoun (Willy D) in 1975 and was united in holy matrimony in 1977. To this union was born LaTonia Sheneis Brown (Calhoun) and Darryl Keith Calhoun II (Casey). They were happily married for 45 years. Sherry was raised in Burress Temple Church of God M.P.G. of T. and was saved at an early age under the pastorate of the late Bishop James Booth Burress and later served under the pastorate of the late Bishop Frank Downs, and the late Bishop Cornelius Price. As an adult, she served under the pastorate of Bishop James S. Price. She was called to the ministry in 2001 and was ordained in 2008. Now we’re done with the formalities let’s talk about how we knew her: Sherry LOVED her family. She thought her family was fanomanotastic! Sherry never met a stranger. You knew when Sherry was in the room. Sherry could walk into a room and not know anyone and come out having ten new friends. Sherry was down to earth and would tell it like it is! She was a prayer warrior. Sherry was a champion of young people; forever young she was. She was a great advisor, an exciting storyteller. Sherry was a nurturer and comforter. She loved life and was witty, funny, and outgoing. Sherry loved to make up her own words, we needed a dictionary of “Sherryisms”. Sherry was a fashionista, diva EXTRAORDINAIRE. Some of her most memorable messages were “Don’t let the devil swing on the monkey bars of your mind” and “Pop up Blockers”. She leaves to cherish her memory: her loving and devoted husband, Darryl Keith Calhoun; daughter, LaTonia S. Brown (Stacey); grandchildren, Darriel D. Calhoun, Darryl K. Calhoun III (Tre), Darris K. Calhoun (Kaisha), Zuriel A. Brown (Zuri), Stacia D. Brown, Orlando D. Brown, and Bre Yona Clark; sister, Rhonda Lynn Strauss-Davis (Gordon); brother, Lemuel Y. Israel aka Conway L. Strauss (Jianna); aunt, Juanita E. Franklin (William); uncle, Robert P. Straus (Charlotte); brothers-in-law, Terry Calhoun (Sherri), Michael Calhoun, and Dwayne Hall; sisters-in-law Pat A. Jones, LaFawn Calhoun, Renee Perry, and Jeneen West (Stanley); sister-cousin, Corliss R. Straus; special nieces, Yolanda L. Strauss and Mesha L. Israel; special friends, Tamara "Tammy" McClinon, Theresa Spaulding, and Carolyn Smith; and a host of nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, cousins, and friends. Sherry was preceded in death by her father, Conway S. Strauss; mother, LaVerne Strauss; son, Darryl Keith Calhoun II (Casey); and brother, Condrae Strauss. Celebration of Life Service will begin at 2:00 PM with visitation an hour prior on Saturday, January 8, 2022 at Burress Temple Church of God MPG OF T, 208 Locust Street, Cincinnati Ohio 45215.
