Tommy DeWayne McWhorter, 53, of Springfield, Ohio passed away on December 24, 2021. He accepted Jesus Christ as his Lord and Savior and was baptized at Greater Grace Temple in the wonderful name of Jesus! He was born in Springfield on January 2, 1968 the son of the late Rose McWhorter and Millard Michael Dixon, Sr. He was an Army Brat who lived in Germany, North Carolina, Texas and New Jersey. Tommy loved Germany. He attended various schools, and while in high school he was quarterback for the football team in Texas. Tommy graduated from Springfield South High School, Class of 1987, The Diamond Jubilee Class. Tommy, Wayne or Tom as he was affectionately known, loved photography. He attended photography classes at Clark State and owned his own photography business known as “Mack Property.” Whenever you would see him, he would be “repping” his Mack Property Brand. He was an avid Cleveland Browns fan. The past few years, Tommy was excited and proud that The Browns were finally having winning seasons. Tommy loved his family and loved attending family gatherings. He did not miss a gathering until his health declined. Tommy loved to cook and barbecue. The Annual “Grands Day” cookout was his favorite event of the year. He wanted to be around family, friends, and loved ones every chance he could. Tommy leaves to cherish his memory: his beloved wife, Suzanne McWhorter of 20 years; his Irish twin, Danielle (Anthony) Crockett; brother, Millard Michael (Christina) Dixon, Jr.; children, Asia McWhorter, Trey Cobb, and Tevan Timmons; step-children, Nicole (Kendall) Ali, Michelle (Peterson) Geneus, Jimmy (Danielle) Owen, and Rick Owen; stepmother, Sheila Dixon; grandchildren, Trinity and Taralyn Cobb, Ryan, Logan, and Aaron Owen, Rochelle May, James and Andrea Owen, Omaria and Olania Ali, and Alania Flournoy; great-grandchild, Lilly Aunna; nephews, DaVante, Darius, Dorian Harper, Millard M. Dixon, III, Jabari J. Dixon, and Julian W. Stubbs; nieces, Portia B. Dixon-Harry, Imani N. Dixon, Tiye E. Dixon; two uncles George (Arlean) McWhorter and David (Theresa) McWhorter; aunts, Helen Dixon and Charlene Butler; and a host of family and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents; his grandparents: Arthur and Jennitha (Strodes) McWhorter, Lee and Virginia (Rice) Dixon, and step-grandfather David Godfrey; step-mother, Gloria Dixon; maternal aunts: Doris Williams, Lucretia Smith, Martha McWhorter, and Sally White; uncles: Richard, Charles, and Arthur McWhorter; paternal aunts, Maxine and Francis Burton, and Patricia Dixon; and paternal uncles, Lloyd, Thomas and Benjamin Dixon. Visitation will be held at 12:00 p.m. with service to begin at 1:00 p.m. on Wednesday, January 5, 2022 at St. John Missionary Baptist Church, 34 Pleasant Street (Mulberry Street side), Springfield, Ohio 45506.
