Walter E. Mcneil, Sr.

Walter E. McNeil, Sr., 84, of Springfield, Ohio transitioned from this life on Thursday, April 18, 2019. He was born on July 1, 1934 in Columbus, Ohio to Ruth B. McNeil-Jones and John McNeil. He moved with his family to Springfield, Ohio in 1947 where he lived for many years before moving to Dayton, Ohio. Walter attended Grayhill Elementary School, Kiefer Junior High School and South High School. He was a United States Air Force veteran and a Department of Defense employee with over 30 years at Wright Patterson Air Force Base. After retiring from WPAFB, he went to work for Project Cure in Dayton, Ohio for over 20 years, where he was the 'DO IT ALL MAN', with one of his favorite projects being the Reach Back Program where he was involved in helping many young people in all aspects of their lives. Walter was a member of the New Holy Church in Christ for many years where he was known as 'THE GODFATHER'. When he moved back to Springfield, Ohio he attended IDMR bible classes whenever his health would allow it. Walter loved to travel, go out to eat and would take anyone anyplace at any time. He loved his family and friends and they loved him. (Take a look around you.) One of the sayings about him, was that he never met a stranger. If you knew Walt, you knew a wonderful man. He will be sadly missed and never forgotten. He is survived by his son, Walter E. Jr. (Mary) McNeil; brother, Thomas C. Sr. (Marcia) Fugate; sisters, Mildred Barr, Marilyn Florence, Zelretta Skelton (Clarence) Williams, and Debra Skelton; special friends, granddaughter Dottie, niece Val, cousin Margie and Dorothy McNeil; and a host of grandchildren, nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Walter was preceded in death by his parents, Ruth and John; brothers, Sylvester, Junior, Marvin, and Burton, Sr.; sisters, DeLoris, Zylerine and Anna Mae. Memorial Service will be held at 3:00 p.m. on Saturday, April 27, 2019 at Park Road Tavern, 2205 Park Rd, Springfield, Ohio 45504 with repast immediately following. The family would like to thank Springfield Regional Medical Center, Ohio Hospice of Dayton and Wright State University. Walter was an anatomical gift donor. ​
