Warren S. Moore, 69, fell asleep in death on Monday, December 4, 2023. He was born in Charlotte, North Carolina on July 20, 1954 to Peggy Doretha and Warren Thomas William Moore.
The oldest of three, he was raised in Springfield, Ohio's Fair Vista neighborhood with his two sisters, where he was referred to as "Rickey", or "Aggie". There he attended Fulton Elementary, Keifer Jr. High, and Springfield South High School. In addition to being a self-proclaimed C"hecker Champ of Fulton Park", Warren's extracurricular interests included football, baseball, and basketball. It would be his abilities in the classroom and on the basketball court that would bring him to Illinois and two of his loves: Patricia Smith, and Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Incorporated.
Warren attended Lincoln Junior College, where he met lifelong friends—from administrators to colleagues. He also attended and graduated from Eureka College with a Bachelor of Science degree. After graduation, Warren worked as a Juvenile Probation Officer before embarking on a career in the transportation industry with Continental Airlines (now United). Warren maintained his desire to positively impact future generations. Many of his evenings and weekends were spent as an active member of his community. He coached baseball and softball for over 10 years within the Markham and Country Club Hills park districts. Those bonds extended beyond summer seasons, as Warren helped former players, neighborhood children, and relatives realize their goals of studying and competing on the collegiate level; with him there to support and cheer them on.
Ever in-service to others, Warren's accommodating spirit and outgoing personality endeared him to many, within and those who passed through Chicago's O'Hare and Midway airports, especially among his retiree peer group affectionately referred to as Ex-Cons. His goodwill was further refined and demonstrated through his work with brothers of his dear fraternity. A 1975 initiate of the Epsilon Kappa chapter of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity Incorporated, he was a stalwart of Chicagoland's Theta Mu Lambda chapter for over 30 years. As a Life Member and Sergeant at Arms, he counted it a privilege to share in countless mentoring, voter registration, quality of life, and scholastic initiatives.
Among the many fruits of these labors, over $400,000 has been awarded to help meet the educational needs of deserving students. Warren's favorite capacity in which to serve and one that he will be remembered for was that of a family man. His faith in Jehovah God was demonstrated by his actions as a devoted husband, an involved father, a loving son, a protective brother, a caring nephew, a warm-hearted cousin, a loyal friend, and an uncle always ready to lend an ear or give advice. He loved music of all kinds which he would emphasize through his love, joyful experiences and waking moments. He was truly a historian at heart.
Also important, was the inclusion of others as family. Consequently, many family trips included members of multiple families. Of course, no trip was complete without a stop at an outlet mall or an "As Seen on TV" store to address Gizmo's love for gadgets and technology.
Warren leaves to cherish his memory: his sister, Veola E. Moore; his loving wife, Dr. Patricia Moore; children, April (Jason, Sr.) Solomon, and Warren (Kiera) Moore; five grandchildren: Jason, Jr., Jaxon, and Jorie Solomon, Warren Thomas, and Kennedi Parker Moore; uncle and aunt, Arthur (Emily) Moore; and a host of other nieces, nephews, relatives, and close friends.
He was preceded in death by his father, Warren Thomas William; mother, Peggy Doretha Moore; sister, Michelle January; and mother-in-law, Lula Mae Liggons-Parrott.
Warren will be dearly missed, but we will see him shortly in a new world where all of the former things will be things of the past (Rev. 2:14).
Memorial Service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, May 18, 2024 at Second Missionary Baptist Church, 615 S. Wittenberg Ave., Springfield, Ohio 45506. Repass to follow in the Church fellowship hall.
Arrangements entrusted to the care of KINLEY Funeral Home.
