William (Bill) Henry Hickerson, 95, of Springfield, Ohio, died at home on Friday, November 3, 2023.
He was born in Mount Vernon, Ohio in 1928 to Everett and Grace (Hoover) Hickerson, who raised their children on the outskirts of town on a farm. The Hickerson family were active members of the Church of Christ. William attended Mount Vernon High School before going to work at Pittsburgh Plate Glass and serving in the National Guard. He worked for PPG for 31 years before finishing his career as an electrician at American National Can.
William met the love of his life, Christiene (Garner) in 1950 at a church fellowship after church services on Sunday. Their dates most often consisted of attending church service on Sunday and spending the day together. Excited to start their new lives together, the two were married June 1, 1952, in Marion, Ohio.
William will always be remembered for his faithful service to the Lord and the Lord’s church, and the way that he loved his family. We, his children, will always remember seeing him studying the Bible in the early mornings and tucking us into bed while asking us Bible questions. We couldn’t have asked for a better example of a faithful Christian father, and we will miss his presence every day. His memory will live on in the hearts of all those who loved him.
William was preceded in death by his parents, Everett Hickerson and Grace Fern (Hoover) Hickerson, his wife of 61 years Christiene (Garner) Hickerson, his sisters, Ruth Patterson, Lillian Smith, June Hickerson, Mildred Mansell, his brother Ted Hickerson, and his daughter Deborah Suggs.
